Economic Dashboard Overview
Our Economic Dashboard brings together key data related to business and employment in Kingston upon Thames. Its core purpose is to help inform council services and partners, to build knowledge, inform plans and support decision-making. Its content will also be used to reflect on the progress and impact of our Economic Development Strategy – Confident in Kingston.

Businesses
This section contains data on businesses in Kingston upon Thames. It focuses on business counts and business births, deaths and survival, providing trends through time and breakdowns by size and industry. Key findings can be compared with London, England and the other South London Partnership local authorities.
Employees by Industry
This section provides employee data for South West London boroughs, London, and England, with further breakdowns available for Kingston by industry and Lower Level Super Output Area (LSOA). The “Employees by area” page displays the number of employees in a selected area from 2015 onwards, allowing users to view full-time and part-time data. The “Kingston employees by industry” page shows the number or percentage of employees working within specific industries in Kingston over the same period.
Economically Active and Earnings
This section provides an overview of economic activity, earnings, and unemployment trends since 2015 for the South West London boroughs, London and England. The dashboard allows users to visualise changes in the economically active population (aged 16–64) and unemployment figures. The “Earnings in time” page compares wages by area (resident and workplace) and gender.
Economically Inactive
This section tracks trends in the economically inactive population (aged 16–64) since 2015 for South West London boroughs, London, and England. It provides a breakdown of economic inactivity by status for residents. The “Ward status and map” page visualises data at ward level, allowing users to view individual ward figures by specific inactive status using graphs and maps.
Benefit Claimants
This section contains data on benefit claimants in Kingston upon Thames. It focuses on Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment, providing trends through time and various breakdowns. Data is also presented at ward level to highlight patterns within the borough. Key findings can be compared with London, England and the other South London Partnership local authorities.
