Economic Dashboard Guidance
This guidance relates to Kingston Council’s Economic Dashboard.
General Functionality
Navigation
The Economic Dashboard consists of 5 different sections, which are effectively mini dashboards. Each of these platforms has a navigation menu displayed in the same position on every page. This allows the user to quickly jump from one page to another.
Slicers
Some visualisations can be filtered. For example, by area or by dataset specific variables. This can be done using slicers, which are presented as dropdowns, vertical lists, or date range selectors. Some slicers allow for single selection, whilst others allow for multiple selections.
Hover Over and Data Point Selection
Hovering over a data point in a visualisation will provide its value. Clicking on a data point will bring focus to it. Clicking again will then remove this focus.
Visualisation Options
Right clicking on a visualisation will provide the option to display it as a table. It is also possible to view an enlarged version of a visualisation in focus mode. When hovering over a visualisation, the icon should appear in the header area.
Accessibilty
Accessibility Overview
The Economic Dashboard was built using Microsoft Power BI and is screen readable. It can be navigated using a keyboard and alternative text has been provided for different page objects. Further information on how to use the accessibility features in Power BI, including keyboard shortcuts, can be found at the following link:

Keyboard Shortcuts
Pressing Tab will intiate interaction with each dashboard. An option will then be provided to ‘Skip to main content’. Once in a dashboard, key commands include Tab to cycle focus through the different objects on each page. Plus, Enter (or Control and Enter when using some screen readers) and Escape, which are generally used to enter and exit various dashboard components respectively. For quick reference, a list of commonly used keyboard shortcuts can be accessed by pressing Shift and Question Mark.
Limitations
We have tried to make the Economic Dashboard as accessible as possible. However, please note that a number of known limitations have been listed in the Accessibility Statement for the Kingston Data Website. We are continually trying to improve the accessibility of our products and would welcome any feedback.
