Malnutrition (or undernutrition) is a serious global public health problem that is significantly underrecognised and under-treated with associated healthcare costs in the UK exceeding £13 billion annually. In the UK, one in three patients admitted to acute care and 35% of those admitted to care homes will be malnourished or at risk, however 93% of those who are malnourished live in the community.
